At 7:30 p.m. last evening my wife got a call on our Cable & Wireless phone number listed in the C&W phone book. It was from a Mr. Garcia claiming to represent C&W and advising my wife that if she would go out to a local store and purchase a C&W phone card she would WIN a Blackberry cellular phone. I suspected it was a fraud but my wife (a Panamanian) and my 13 year old daughter believed the story. She was advised to call him when she bought a $10. phone card at the store, which she did. He kept her on the phone for 1/2 hour with frequent requests to 'hold on a minute' while he talked to other people.The telephone number listed on our incoming calls was 6117-3984. While she was gone I figured out the probable scam, have the house vacated while robbers rob the house. I was at home with my 120 lb. Doberman and my 80 lb. Rottweiler awaiting their arrival. Today we went to the C&W office in Boquete to alert them of the scam. The fellow in the office said that there was nothing he could do but he said that the incoming call number was actually 6777-6905. This is just a heads-up to other unsuspecting people. My wife and daughter are a lot smarter now!!!
